  • This role is ideal for a building certifier or fire engineering student or recent graduate who wants an opportunity to learn in the real world while they earn with flexible hours, either full-time or to fit their study schedule.

    We are looking for someone to join our technical team who will support our certifiers and clients by:

    • Researching passive fire systems and suitable applications

    • Categorising and summarising a large number of AS 1530.4 Fire tests

    • Helping to create and document installation instructions

    • Assisting in developing resources for our clients

    Skills needed:

    • Ability to think outside the box and enjoy detailed research to develop solutions

    • Have a basic understanding of the BCA and Australian Standards

    • Ability to draft computer-generated drawings

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    The passive fire industry is growing at an exponential rate, requiring consulting expertise specialising in this area. Plus Systems is seeking an experienced plasterer or carpenter to join our growing team to train as a passive fire certifier. With excellent career prospects for growth and variety whilst specialising in a niche area, the role may suit a tradesman looking to grow and specialise in this area.

    Once trained, key tasks will include carrying out site inspections, researching to find solutions to client passive fire issues, providing advice to clients around compliant systems, installation guidelines and the like. You will gain a solid understanding of inspection, certification, and solutions for:

    • Passive fire systems including: Fire-rated walls & ceilings, penetrations, dampers, ducts, shutters, doors, spray and steel encasement.

    • QBCC licence and Form 12 requirements.

    ABOUT YOU

    To be successful in this role, you will need to be client-focused, with a trade background and have experience with the following:

    • Ability to think outside the box and research to develop solutions and cost effective outcomes for clients

    • Being a part of planned innovation in new knowledge for the organisation

    • Research for the team including test reports and review of research completed by other team members to create new consulting products

    • Preparation of topical blogs and technical papers for circulation

    • Desire to learn and develop your career

    • Strong time management and scheduling disciplines

    • High computer and software literacy

    • Preferably QBCC licenced

    IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT YOU WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS

    • 3 + years’ experience in the construction industry

    • Outstanding verbal & written communication skills

    • Ability to follow processes but be able to think outside the box when needed

    • QBCC Licence or the ability to obtain

    • No formal passive fire qualifications are necessary but will be an advantage

    • Eligible to work permanently in Australia

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    The passive fire industry is growing at an exponential rate, requiring much consulting expertise. Plus Systems is seeking an experienced building regulations consultant to join our growing team.  The role will suit a building certifier looking for growth and variety whilst specialising in a niche area, with a consulting firm looking to develop into new markets and provide services and advice with a difference.

    Key tasks will include providing advice to other professionals, trades or fire practitioners around passive fire specifically, documenting interpretation on Australian Standards, BCA, and other industry statements in order to provide advice, technical papers, and clarity to clients, and leading in expertise and collaboration for all parties in construction.  It may also include inspections, reports, and advice in relation to fire rated walls, penetration seals, and fire rated door sets, and researching to find solutions to client out of the box passive fire issues. 

    You have the opportunity to work and advise on projects across all classes of building, and work with a team expert in this area.

    ABOUT YOU

    To be successful in this role, you will need to have the ability to focus on finding the best possible solution which may sometimes require providing evidence for other building certifiers or fire engineers, and also an ability to research, define issues, and provide advice to many parties.  You will need to be client-focused both internally and externally, with a code consulting background and have experience with the following:

    • Ability to think outside the box and research to develop solutions and commercial or cost effective outcomes for clients

    • Being a part of planned innovation in new knowledge for the organisation

    • Research for the team and review of research completed by other team members to create new consulting products

    • Preparation of topical blogs and technical papers for circulation

    • Desire to learn and develop your career

    • High computer and software literacy

    IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT YOU WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS

    • Building certifier with 10 + years’ experience in the construction industry

    • Knowledge of Australian Standards and BCA particularly those surrounding passive fire

    • Outstanding verbal & written communication skills

    • Ability to follow process but be able to think outside the box when needed

    • QBCC Licence or the ability to obtain

    • No formal passive fire qualifications are necessary but will be an advantage

    • Eligible to work permanently in Australia

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    The passive fire industry is growing at an exponential rate, requiring consulting expertise specialising in this area. A new level of advice combining much expertise behind system selections for Dts compliance with the BCA, and growing requirements for performance solutions where Dts is no longer a route to compliance is in huge demand.

    Plus Systems provides this level of service that combines high level buildability advice required on site and prior to construction, for system selections, suitability of evidence, performance solutions and research and advice via a number of related papers and products.

    The role would be integral in our technical team supporting customers – typically other fire companies, manufacturers, or Tier 1 & 2 Builders - but would also support our certification team as required, both on and off site, with technical advice and inspections. You will need to be willing to take on any task to help the team achieve our goals and driven to meet our clients needs ensuring they have the highest in standards of passive fire in their buildings.

    ABOUT YOU

    To be successful in this role, you will have experience with or the ability to execute the following:

    • Being a part of planned innovation in new knowledge for the organisation

    • Research for the team including test reports, and review of research completed by other team members to create new consulting products

    • Consulting in passive fire areas to clients and to the support of the operations team

    • Analysis with the team of the NCC 2019 around passive fire issues for penetrations and walls

    • Preparation of suitability of evidence where necessary for consulting fire engineers

    • Preparation of topical blogs and technical papers for circulation

    • Potentially giving advice to clients in our telephone enquiry service

    • Assistance with onsite audits and onsite compliance eg researching solutions

    • Certification of penetrations on site once skilled in this area, on occasion

    IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT YOU WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS

    • Relevant tertiary qualifications

    • RPEQ registration would be an advantage

    • 2+ years relevant consulting experience on building fire safety projects

    • Developed technical skills pertaining to site audits and inspections coupled with ensuing FER’s would be an advantage

    • Knowledge of Australian Standards and BCA

    • Fire Safety Professional Qualification would be an advantage

    • QBCC Licence or the ability to obtain

    • Ability to follow process but be able to think outside the box when needed

    • Outstanding verbal & written communication skills

    • Eligible to work permanently in Australia
